Taking the Mom out of my Tini What is the difference between being a normal twenty something on a Saturday night and falling face-down on the living room floor fifteen years later? For me, I suppose only time will tell. After reading Melissa’s (over at Suburban Bliss) response to the NY Times article on happy-hour playdates, I started thinking about alcohol consumption and motherhood....

John Bought Jackie’s from Van Cleef After a lengthy tiff regarding diamond jewelery and the American Camelot, Ian sighs, “ask not what your boyfriend can do for you; ask what you can do for your boyfriend.”

Happy Birthday, Georgie Much birthday love is being sent to Mr. George Boone, who turns a ripe 22 today. Some may enjoy the prose stylings of verygeorge.com, but my favorite works of his fall into the category of late-night text messages and slurred voice mails. Plus, the kid looks great in a sweatband. Keep up the good work.

Quick, Someone Get this Girl a Fainting Sofa After a surprising work week and a lovely but too-short weekend, I am left with a busy desk and a blank mind. Below is a piece I began awhile ago, which is tragic at best, but summarizes what November was like for me. January has dredged up some old feelings, but has brought about a whirl-wind of new, fabulous ones. Some days, after talking things over...

You Know the Universe has a Sense of Humor When After hearing that your days of employment are numbered, you call a few friends to join you for lunch. While paying for your tear-soaked General Tso’s, you crack open a fortune cookie, which reads: “You will soon vacation in a place of cool climate.”

New Addition Today I hopped on over to The Small Object and purchased the following print from the Peep Photograph Portfolio: It is appropriately titled “Love” and I can’t seem to accurately express my initial reaction upon viewing it. Something between a first kiss and biting into something that’s a little too sweet. The photograph itself is of two of Sarah...

Reason Number 8,361 Why I’m a Fan After finding a playing card, crumpled sheets of paper and a peanut in dire stages of decomposition, you attempt to remove the rest of the couch cushions to explore. The mere thought of this, however, prompts the need to put my head between my legs and breathe into a paper bag. You see, I cannot begin to comprehend the overwhelmingly disgusting task of...

Two Things to Enjoy “Coke should produce their own range of canned alcoholic mixed drinks - vodka and Coke, Jack Daniels and Coke, rum and Coke, Bacardi and Coke, etc. “ “Every single person has at least one secret that would break your heart. If we could just remember this, I think there would be a lot more compassion and tolerance in the world”

5 Things I Did This Weekend Listened to lots of bluegrass Watched Henry & June* Ate at West 5 Fell on the ice** Endured the nasal stylings of Ian “The Snore Tunnel” Prebo*Which was fabulous, but not quite as fabulous as Benny & Joon, which has been near and dear to my heart ever since it brought about confusing feelings regarding Johnny Depp circa third grade. **It...

You’re Bacon Me Crazy Last Sunday I had the pleasure of meeting L’s beaux, Francis, who joined us for our weekly brunch at Easy Street. Francis is a charming fellow with a promising future and a winning smile. Also, he agrees to pose for ridiculous pictures and laughs off the general verbal recklessness that is L and I together in public. For example, he can be seen below reenacting a...

Speaking of Innovation My boyfriend, Steve Jobs, announced the release of iPhone during his key note this morning. Did I eagerly sit through the entire live blog at MacRumors? Yes. Is the promise of me being able to manage all of my media via three revolutionary tech functions packed into one sleek design bringing on a full-blown organizational manic attack? Yes. Behold, the Apple site has finally...

Innovation, Three-Hundred Years too Late I’m sitting here, reordering my Netflix queue, when suddenly it dawns on me: Netbooks. You check out a book you want, read it, and when you’re finished, you can exchange it for another on your list. But I suppose Ben Franklin beat me to the punch on that one. Another reason why I need to go to the library more often. Free books? You’ve got...

Sending Birthday Love a Full 6,400 Miles Today, Mr. Fred Akalin celebrates a full twenty-four years on this planet. Yesterday it dawned on me that he was indeed living the sweet birthday life a whole day early in the Philippines, where he will be visiting family for the next few weeks. Although he assures me that life in the future brings little innovation, “there are no flying cars...
