There are things that I am good at. Math is not one of those things. Neither are political debates. I tend to lump math, science, politics, and directional sense into a particularly smooth part of my brain that is stamped in red ink with “Can’t Do.”
That said, there is a large, heavily grooved part of my brain devoted to procuring visually pleasing organizational storage devices. Yes, mugs and glasses fall into this category. In fact, they often hold the fluids that are most precious to me: coffee and tonics.
I purchased these fine pieces of Americana* at Fishs Eddy while visiting friends in New York over President’s Day weekend. Oddly enough, my chosen color pallate consisted of red, white, and blue, featuring political party symbols and iconic liberals. Even stranger, I did not notice this until they were shipped to me last night.
Do not fret, apathetic friends, Fishes Eddy offers a wide range of truly astounding vintage diner pieces and modern takes on old themes. I suggest you go there immediately and procure some of your own fine diningware.
*Side note: Wikipedia’s entry on Americana is hilarious to me. “Examples of this culture include baseball, apple pie, Superman, the Diner, barbed wire, wagon trains, jazz…” It’s amazing how a term used to catalog and organize can hold so many diverse themes and creations. <sarcasm>Much like the very vessels this post describes.</sarcasm>
