Yesterday my mother and I met Ina Garten. In the less than three minutes we had to introduce ourselves, my nervous self deemed it important to tell her how much I love topping off her scalloped tomatoes with a poached egg. She replied, “oh! That’s a good idea,” with such genuine interest that I will now replay her words on loop in my brain whenever I’m filled with any bit of self doubt.
